What We Teach

At Mission Community Church (MCC), we seek to teach faithfully from Scripture, proclaim the gospel clearly, and help people understand and obey God's Word. The following summarizes the core truths you can expect to hear consistently taught at MCC.

The Bible

We teach that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. Because God is true and cannot lie, His Word is completely trustworthy and serves as our ultimate authority for what we believe, teach, and practice.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16–17; Proverbs 30:5–6; Titus 1:2

God

We teach that there is one true and living God, infinite and perfect in His being and attributes. He is eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, and present everywhere. He is perfectly holy, righteous, wise, loving, and good. God eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God, yet there is one God.

Scripture: Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14; 6:2-3; 15:11-18; Matthew 3:16-17; John 4:24; 14:6-13; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Timothy 1:17

Jesus Christ

We teach that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived a perfectly righteous and sinless life, willingly died on the cross as our substitute for sin, was buried, and was physically raised from the dead on the third day. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus accomplished God's plan of redemption, conquering sin and death.

Scripture: John 1:1, 14; Colossians 1:15–20; Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

The Holy Spirit

We teach that the Holy Spirit is fully God and is actively at work in the life of every believer. Upon believing in Jesus Christ, a person is sealed and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. He convicts of sin, guides believers into truth, helps us in prayer, produces spiritual fruit, and works to conform God's people to the image of Christ.

Scripture: Ephesians 1:13–14; John 16:8–13; Romans 8:9, 26, 29; Galatians 5:22–23

Humanity and Sin

We teach that every person has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Because of sin, humanity is separated from God and spiritually dead apart from Christ. Our greatest need, therefore, is not simply to become better people but to be made alive and reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1, 5

The Gospel

The gospel in three words: Believe in Jesus!

Through faith in Jesus, you are forgiven of sin, reconciled to God, and receive from God the free gift of eternal life.

Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (fully God and fully man), who died on the cross as payment for all sin (past, present, and future), and was raised to life on the third day, receives from God forgiveness of sin, reconciliation to God, and the free gift of eternal life.

Scripture: John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 3:24-25; Romans 6:23

Justification

We teach that justification is God’s gracious act of declaring a sinful person righteous through faith in Jesus Christ, completely forgiving his sin and crediting to him the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Justification is complete and eternal from the moment a person believes in Jesus.

Scripture: Philippians 3:9; Galatians 2:16; Galatians 3:27; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 3:24-28; Romans 4:5.

Sanctification

We teach that sanctification is the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, progressively delivering him from the power of sin and shaping him into the image of Jesus Christ.

Scripture: Colossians 3:10-11; Romans 8:29; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3

Eternal Security in Christ

We teach the eternal security of the believer. Everyone who has been born again through faith in Jesus Christ is eternally secure in Him and is kept by the power of God.

Scripture: John 3:3, 16; Romans 8:38–39; Ephesians 1:3-14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

The Church

We teach that the local church is a congregation of baptized believers living together under the authority of Jesus Christ and His Word. We practice congregational church government, with the congregation having final decision-making responsibility in major matters. We recognize the New Testament offices of pastors/elders/overseers and deacons.

Scripture: Matthew 18:15-20; Acts 20:17, 28; 1 Corinthians 5:4-5, 12-13; 1 Timothy 3:1-13

Believer’s Baptism

We teach that baptism by immersion is an ordinance and an act of obedience for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save, regenerate, or provide forgiveness of sin, but publicly identifies the believer with Jesus Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection.

Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41; Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12

The Lord’s Supper

We teach that the Lord’s Supper is an ordinance regularly observed by baptized believers in remembrance of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross and in proclamation of His death until He comes. The Lord’s Supper was instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper He shared with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Scripture: Matthew 26:20-29; Mark 14:17-25; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The Return of Christ and Eternity

We teach that Jesus Christ will personally, visibly, and bodily return. The dead will be raised, every person will stand before God in judgment, those who are in Christ will enjoy eternal life with God, and those who remain apart from Christ will face eternal judgment.

Scripture: Acts 1:9-11; John 5:28-29; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 21:1-4

Our Aim

These truths are not merely statements to affirm. We want them to shape how we worship, how we live, how we love one another, and how we carry the gospel into our community.

At Mission Community Church, our desire is to go with the gospel through intentional presence and faithful witness, grow as disciples through Christian community and send to multiply disciples, leaders, and churches.
